NOKIA: Android or Windows

NOKIA Android or Windows

The will it? Won’t it? Question has been answered by Nokia as it has incorporated android as its operating system in its upcoming model Nokia X A110 or colloquially referred as Nokia’s Android.

The name of this model suggests that it will be different from the LUMIA series also providing a customer benefit of keeping the two OS’s separate. This model is speculated to hit the shelves sometime in Q2-Q3 with an android 4.4.2 a.k.a KitKat out of the box. The model is also speculated to have a processor of something around Adreno 203 with a dual core 1 GHz CPU although the exact specifications are still unknown. It will also have a 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage, a 5MP rear camera as well as a 1500mAh battery.

The presence of the secondary camera is still unsure but the option of expanding memory using memory card of up to 32GB is present. Very little knowledge pertaining to the screen is known but it is speculated that the screen will be around 4” with 245ppi pixel density. The phone is also speculated to have a Dual Sim variant. The probability of Nokia’s Android to have a forked version of the OS is high as it would allow better integration of Nokia apps with android. An article published by Wall Street Journal contributes to this fact and also claims that the phone will not have access to the regular Google Play store but would rather come with a number of Nokia and Microsoft developed apps. Some of these apps would include Nokia Here Maps, Mix Radio and Skype and also would feature other popular mobile apps like what’s app Facebook, Twitter and so on.

Yet another drawback confirmed is that this model will not come in 4G version and thus will lead something to be desired from the future Nokia Androids. Although the possibility that Nokia would unveil this giant in the upcoming MWC to be held in Barcelona on 24th Feb. is high still there is a chance that the mobile will be unboxed at a later date as it is not a flagship mobile and would also be priced in a lower bracket. Hopefully the Nokia Android meets the eager expectations that await its arrival.

Here’s how Android looks on Nokia Normandy

Nokia Normandy with Android 2

I had never imagined that I will have to write this update on my blog. Because I always believed Nokia is a powerful phone maker that would never descend.

But things have changed since past few months. Microsoft acquired Nokia’s mobile business and Nokia started implementing their Windows Phone operating system.

It did not end there itself. Nokia also tweeted that it has discontinued the support for its Symbian and MeeGo apps.

And now, we have started getting leaks on how Google’s mobile operating system Android will look on Nokia’s smart phone, codenamed – Nokia Normandy.

If a tipster is to be believed, the smart phone is still under research and prototypes and shall see a day of light this fall, or next year.

Even though the tipsters have been pretty accurate, there is no 100% confirmation on whether an Android powered Nokia phone is a rumour or really a reality.

It would be very exciting to see what Android and Nokia bring to the consumers, with already iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One, LG G Flex into a tough competition to be on top of the list.

Of course, there are no words on its releasing, nor any vague idea on what would be its pricing range if at all it is released.

Still, looking at the leaks and images, we consider that Nokia Normandy, running Google’s Android operating system could range anything between INR 10,000 to INR 25,000; depending on its internal specifications and memory capacity.

If Nokia Normandy ever launches to the public, will you get one for yourself? Will Nokia running Android be a tough competition to the Samsung hardware running Android operating system?

Nokia Stops support for Symbian

Nokia Symbian

Days after the software giant Microsoft bought Nokia in a $4 billion deal, Nokia has officially stopped support for its Symbian and MeeGo apps. The Finnish mobile company has abandoned the two in-house mobile operating systems in favour of Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

The Symbian Signed Team announced the end of support for Symbian and MeeGo apps via Twitter. The tweet said,

Following the deal with Microsoft in October, Nokia had published on its developer page that Symbian and MeeGo materials in Nokia Store will remain available to customers and developers for download, would continue to receive revenue reports and payouts for downloaded content.

However, developers will no longer be able to publish new apps or any sort of content, or even update existing content for Symbian and MeeGo operating systems from January 1, 2014.

Nokia in a public meeting said that it has decided to focus completely on its support and investment in new content towards Nokia Asha series, the company’s feature phone platform, and Windows Phone.

With this move, Nokia has finally bid farewell to all of its old software platforms. An ecosystem where nothing is permanent, Nokia ruled billions of homes with its Symbian operating system, and finally comes to an end.

Will you miss Symbian, which was once the favorite operating system of every mobile phone user?
