The release dates of new Smartphones have always been at the highlight of the technology calendar.  Last year around November, the famous Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were launched, which took all the Smartphone lovers dancing to the high heavens. Well, this is not because this came as a surprise, because, well, by the time it is released the tentative date has already been prospected, but because of the amazing features they came with. The main issue has always been to bring something stronger and more effective with as many apps as possible as the previous one.

Of the most famous then was the Nexus 4 with the highest sales to price ratio and it took the market with a bang! However, since man has been shown of the potential improvements in the world of technology, all the eyes are now focused on the new Google Nexus 6 Smartphone. It is not yet clear on the actual release date in the market, but analysts have speculated it to be around November, judging with the previous release dates.

However, the probability of this still remains untold completely.  For this to happen, Google will also have to consider the market needs so that they can satisfy their fans needs and meet their expectations at the same time. It is for this reason that the rumor of an earlier release has been going around.

LG Announces Pocket Photo 2: We Take You For a Spin

LGs pocket printer, as the name suggests, is the most portable pocket printer in the world. As much as the size of a hard drive, the LG’s pocket photo printer just weighs 212 grams.

LG Pocket Photo 2

Previously around October 2013, the LG Pocket Photo 1.0 was launched. It is a highly portable pocket-sized printer which has the ability to pair with your phone via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or NFC and print your photos using its own LG app.

Pocket Photo NFC

Pocket Photo Bluetooth

The predecessor was compatible with iOS and Android, but the new version is also compatible with Windows phone.

Since the images printed through this device, are taken using your mobile phone (for most of the times though) the final printed image may appear a bit washed out than the ones you see on your phone’s display.

That is because, the images seen on your phone are backlit, this increases the contrast and makes the picture quality appear a bit better. However, that simply won’t be the case when you print your photos!

The LG Pocket Photo 2 claims to print better images than its older cousin since the image quality for this version is set to 600 dpi than the earlier 313 dpi.

Pocket Printing

How it Works?

Inkless paper that is exclusively made for the LG Pocket Photo is placed inside the printer. Once that is done, the power is turned on.

Pocket Photo Print Quality

The next thing is to pair it up with your phone (Windows Phone, iOS, Android) via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or NFC. LG has its own app (available for free at the Play Store) which has the same name as this product; it allows you to edit the photo according to your preferences and print the photo accordingly.

Editing options include changing brightness, contrast, hue levels and adding Instagram like effects along with the same old regular editing options.

Once that is done, you can proceed to print your photo. The printing uses the ZINK technology which involves heating up certain chemicals to produce the image onto the paper (Inkless Paper). Your photo gets printed in just 45 sec.

Zero Ink

The LG Pocket Photo 2 is all set to go live in CES January 7, 2014 at Las Vegas. It will start shipping to retailers only around February.

How will the LG Pocket Photo 2 differ from its predecessor?

  • Extended its compatibility to Windows Phone OS
  • Prints come out to be more crisper than the previous one (600 dpi compared to previous 313 dpi)
  • Slimmer than the predecessor
  • Better battery life

What I like

  • Zero Ink (ZINK) feature: Means you wouldn’t need to carry the toner ink cartridge anymore!
  • Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi compatible
  • Print passport photos in less than a minute: No need to go to the photographer! 😉
  • Print 30 photos in one single charge!

Final words

The LG Pocket photo 2 is a highly portable photo printer; almost as small as your hard drive and can print 2” X 3” photos quite well.

Pocket Photo by LG
Practically, today, it’s quite rare for people to maintain a hard copy of their photos. If you ask me, the moment I finish clicking photos with my phone camera, or my digital camera, they’re straightway sent to my hard drive (or cloud storage) and I have a look at them whenever I feel like! So it might seem like an unwanted luxury for most of you out there!

The LG Pocket Photo 1.0 is available in India and costs between INR 13,000-15,000 and that means the LG Pocket Photo 2.0 won’t cost anything less than INR 20,000 which seems to be too costly to show off, isn’t it ;)?

On second thoughts, for those who still like to preserve their memories on photo, in hard copy, might find this an innovative device!

LG Flex: Features, Review and Cost in India

LG Flex is literally flexible. Instead of being rigid and built with glass and hard plastic, like any other smartphone you know about, it is made up of curved components. This means that it may literally be bent and even pressed.

It is possible to stand on this phone and not break it (be careful in testing that theory). It is a very slim phone that is flexible but still stiff. The images of it bending over which are available online are a bit of an exaggeration.

It is very light and very slim and it is built with plastic substrates that make it flexible. In other words, it is curved and hard, but flexible (it is hard to describe without having a play with it yourself).

There are exceptions in bending, the camera, battery or the processors, so look at it as a smartphone that is simply more durable (or less breakable) than other devices.

And, a phone that has a bit of a curve to it. The battery is placed within the curving flex phone by the use of stack and folding technology.

It reduces the pressure that is put on the battery when some one tries to bend it or tries to sit on it by mistake. It makes it harder to damage the battery with bending forces.

Features and Review

The LG Flex has the Android 4.2.2 operating system. Its dimensions are 6.32″ x 3.21″ x 0.31″, that is 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9  mm. It weighs 6.24 Oz which is 177 gm.

Display

It has a 6″ display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The pixel density is 245 pixels per inch which is pretty standard but not good enough compared to iPhone 5S and Google Nexus 7. It uses P-OLED multi touch display. Except for the curved and flexible screen, nothing else is really impressive.

The LG Flex Sensor

It comes with a proximity  and  light sensor. I wish they had inculcated a new type of sensor that can take the advantage of curved display and made it more interesting.

Battery

It has a battery that is 3500 mAh, which is a HUGE battery capacity for a phone. It is far bigger than most which is going to guarantee you a nice long standby time as well as very good talk time.. The battery is one of the most inflexible things on a phone.
You can create bendy and squash-able components for many types of phone internals. But, the battery is where they have really done well to make sure it does not split or burst when compressed or bent.

Processor

It powers the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor. The processor is a quad core which means it has four processors. It has a clock speed  of 2260 MHz. Its graphics processor (GPU) is the Adreno 330.

RAM

It is 2048 MB (2 GB) RAM. It can handle most of the tasks that you do at it. It also comes with a gigantic 32 GB of storage, which is less compared to a 64 GB iPhone model.

Sound

It has notifications such as haptic feedback and it has musical MP3 ringtones and  polyphonic ringtones. It has vibration mode, flight mode and silent mode as well as speakerphone which you will find in all other smartphones too. It comes with digital compass and an accelerometer sensors.

Camera

The camera featuring on LG Flex is a 13 mega pixel camera. It is very impressive and is currently the biggest mega pixel that any smartphone has. Samsung were the first to install one on a popular flagship phone, and it is now the highest mega pixel you are going to find on latest device.
It has a 1.2 MP front facing camera and Flash LED  along with the rear camera.

Network and communications

It uses GSM: 900, 850, 1900, 1800 MHz and has LTE (Long Term Evolution) and HSPA compatibility. It also has EDGE and GPRS compatibility and uses GPS and A-GPS. It includes Bluetooth 4.0 and has Wi-Fi: 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac. It also has USB 3.0 and microUSB support. It has a mass storage device and USB charging port at its bottom.

LG Flex Self Healing Demo:

LG Flex Cost and Availability in India

The keynote event of LG was held specifically to announce the LG G Flex in India but the launch is expected in February, 2014.

There is no clear comment on what price consumers should expect but as per our sources, it would be priced around Rs. 60,000 – Rs. 65,000 and it will also depend on the Dollar rate at the time of launch.

But the question to ask is, people in India already think iPhone is a costly smartphone, will LG Flex make through the consumer market in India? An official from LG said they are planning to launch just 500 units of LG Flex in the first quarter.

This device is pretty unique and different from existing devices, having a curved screen and self healing back, but the Android operating system isn’t quite modified for the hardware and taken its full advantage.

We should see an update on that soon. What do you think about this device? Is it as seducting as the iPhone 5S’s finger print sensor was?
